Planibel A: AGC’s new low E for the UK

AGC has launched Planibel A, described as a revolutionary new energy efficient glass for the UK market with a high performance, low-emissivity hard coating specially developed to perform to the highest ratings within the Window Energy Ratings scale from C to A, without the need for edge deletion.

Drawing on its experience in both hard and soft coat production, AGC can now claim an A rating with a hard coat glass within most leading window profiles – something that was previously thought unobtainable with pyrolitic coating – and achieve a C rating cost effectively using the minimum of processing requirements.

In addition, AGC says that the enhanced processing features of a hard coated glass, combined with its exceptional performance, enable Planibel A to offer glass processors and window manufacturers unrivalled benefits over alternative soft coat solutions. It is easier to process, with no edge deletion, has improved resistance to scratches during storage and handling, and has a much longer shelf life than soft coat glass.

Furthermore, new Planibel A benefits from AGC’s ‘fasT’ technology, which not only enables the glass to be positioned so that the Low-E coating is in direct contact with the rollers in the furnace, but also significantly speeds up the toughening cycle.

As a Low-E glass, Planibel A meets the highest performance requirements for WERs and, depending on the composition of the window, Planibel A can achieve ratings from C to A with most leading window profiles, says AGC. Planibel A also provides a high solar factor to maximise free solar gain (SF: 78% with an external sheet of Clearvision) and has a normal emissivity 0.10 (1.4 W/m2K with argon gas filling).
